Vernon Hershberger hand-crafts beautiful beds - beds that are made for dreaming.
Vernon Hershberger started woodworking in his dad's hobby shop as a teenager, yet it wasn't until after he was married and spent 12 years working at a Lumber Mill while doing custom woodworking projects on the side, that he was able to set out on his own to craft furniture full-time. He started making beds when his brother-in-law Joe Troyer, of J & M Woodworking, had asked him to make a sleigh bed to go with other furniture he himself had made. Once he started helping Joe, the crafting continued and in 2003 he was able to start woodworking full time. He now works out of his own 40' x 56' shop and makes 18 different styles of beds in many shapes, colors and sizes. He takes great pride in knowing that his beds are heavy duty and hand-crafted with quality, something he can guarantee as he is the sole owner, designer and woodworker in his shop and knows every detail of his beds as they gets shipped to their new homes.
Vernon works hard to have unique styles of beds that are on trend with what customers are looking for. He makes beds in all sizes including twin, full, queen, king and California king, which is 4 inches longer and narrower for tall individuals.

Ellie's Panel Bed - This bed was custom request that caught the eye of Vernon's wife Ellie (hence the name "Ellie's" Panel Bed. It is simple yet elegant with a tall head board.
Country Sleigh Bed - This sleigh bed has a straight headboard between two curved posts. Because of the straight headboard, there is a tighter fit between the mattress and the headboard where there would usually be a gap due to the 6-7% curve of the sleigh bed design.
Manhattan Sleigh Bed - This bed was designed after a baby crib that Vernon's brother-in-law, Joe Troyer of J & M Woodworking made. For customers who purchase the baby crib and bedroom suit from J & M , it is ideal for upgrading into as the child grows.
El Rito Bed - The El Rito is a new design also crafted after a bedroom suit made by J&M Woodworking.
Vernon's favorite part of woodworking is in the design. And because he specialized in beds, he takes much attention to knowing what trends are in style and what customers are asking for to match with their bedroom furniture. He is able to customize each piece with great detail on everything from the size and style of the bed and the type of wood. Vernon started doing work with only cherry and oak, but now offers 11 different kinds of wood for his customers to choose from including Red Oak, Brown Maple, Rustic Cherry, Quartersawn White Oak, Hard Maple, Cherry, Walnut, Hickory, Elm, Soft Maple and Sacromento Oak.
Vernon and Ella Hershberger live in Baltic, Ohio with their four children; Matthew (age 12), Moses (age 8), Jeremiah (age 5) and Kristine (age 2).
